Capture-recapture methods are widely used in ecology to estimate animal population size from detections of individually recognisable animals.

In this talk, Dr Ben Stevenson will present two recent extensions: ‘spatial capture-recapture’ and ‘cluster capture-recapture’. The former recognises a spatial component of wildlife surveys that is often ignored, while the latter relaxes the need to uniquely identify animals.

Dr Stevenson will describe these methods using applications to a variety of taxa, including cetaceans, anurans and primates.
