Polls show that New Zealanders strongly support protecting native species. However Dr James Russell believes the "devil is in the details" when it comes to rolling out eradication programs.

To learn more about how New Zealanders think about such issues, a group led by the Department of Conservation's social science team in Wellington, is finalizing a national survey. The goal is to uncover not just what concerns people, but why.

Dr Russell, who convenes the bioethics panel alongside Dr Emily Parke from the Faculty of Arts, is helping to guide the project. He talks to BBC Scotland and Science about the challenges involved.
