The University of Auckland offers a wide range of subject areas which allow you to integrate both molecular and whole organism aspects of biology.

Planning an Undergraduate Programme in Biological Sciences


The Bachelor of Science (BSc) programme offers the opportunity for you to major in many scientific subject areas, including Biological Sciences. The BSc programme can be completed in a minimum of six semesters and requires passes in courses to a total value of 360 points.

To be enrolled in a normal full time course of study you must complete 120 points per year. The courses in most undergraduate degrees carry a value of 15 points and a normal fulltime enrolment is eight courses per year.

The following are required:

  • 300 points in a minimum of three subjects from the BSc schedule
  • up to 30 points may be from other faculties
  • at least 180 points must be above Stage 1
  • at least 60 points at Stage 3 in a single major and 45 in any subsequent major
  • at least 75 points at Stage 3 overall
  • at least 30 points from General Education.

To apply for a place in a programme(s):

  • log onto www.auckland.ac.nz
  • click on Apply Now
  • complete the online application for a place in your programme(s) of choice
  • you will receive an acknowledgement letter asking you to provide specific
  • certified documents and will tell you how to access the University’s enrolment system to complete the next steps.

Alternatively, if you do not have internet access you may:

  • phone 0800 61 62 63 or +64 9 308 2386 and the ClockTower Call Centre will forward required information to you.

Your application will then be assessed and if successful an, “Offer of a place in a programme” letter will be mailed to you. At this point you may accept or decline your offer of a place in a programme, however you still need to enrol in your course.
