Biological Sciences at Auckland incorporates a wide range of disciplines underpinning research in Ecology, Evolution and Behaviour; Microbiology; Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology; Plant Molecular Science; Proteomics and Biomedicine; Structural Biology and also in Teaching and Learning Innovations. Our
Undergraduate and
Postgraduate teaching programmes enable students studying at Auckland to focus their learning in one or more topic areas. These include Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Plant Science, Ecology and Conservation, Animal Behaviour and Physiology, Marine and Freshwater Biology.
Many Biological Sciences courses also contribute to related specialisations including
marine science,
environmental science,
food and
wine science,
biotechnology,
biomedical sciences,
bioinformatics,
biosecurity and
bioscience enterprise.
The School currently employs 180
staff and supervises over
150 graduate research projects. SBS is located in the
BioSciences Cluster - a dedicated research facility, which has world-class infrastructure shared between the School, five
Research Centres and Institutes, and several
Company Partners. Students can select from a broad selection of projects for
Honours, Master and Doctoral degrees, which can be wholly supervised by SBS academics or jointly between SBS, University and/or industry scientists.
